First we find it, then we write it down
An ornament is knowledge, not a product. It sits in a museum drawer, in an album nobody has opened for forty years, or in the hands of one woman who still remembers how it goes.
We go and find it. We record where it came from - the museum, the inventory number, the region - and turn it into a chart. That record is what we are really building. The pieces come after it.
Found and written down
Every ornament comes from somewhere: a museum, an archive, a person who still remembers it. We record where, and we keep the record.
The maker keeps what she makes
We don't produce and we don't own. The piece belongs to the woman who knitted it, the recipe to the woman who cooks it. Her name stays on it.
Handed on, not just sold
Craft passes from hands to hands. That is why our workshops - knitting and cooking - are the point of this, not an extra.
Every country made something of its own
Choose the one you come from - or the one someone you love comes from.

Patterns
Charts recovered from museum collections and from the makers themselves. Buy a chart and knit it yourself.
The piece stays yours
We don't buy your work and we don't own it. It is yours until it sells, you send it to the buyer yourself, and your name goes on it.
You're not on your own
Photography, descriptions, translation, talking to the buyer, handling returns. All of it is ours. You make the piece.
You know your share before you start
No listing fees. No paying to be seen. A fixed share of the price the buyer pays, agreed before you cast on.
Where the money goes
The buyer pays one price, and most of it is yours. Until 1 December 2026 our share is 25%, so you keep 75%. Coordinators and museums are paid out of our share, never out of yours.
| You | 65% | your materials and your work |
| KATUN | 35% | page, photography, words, translation, promotion, the buyer |
Beyond selling
Your patterns become charts we sell - and you get a share of every chart sold, not just every piece. Later: in-person workshops in your region, recorded courses, and a permanent record of the patterns you work with.

Tell us what you make and where. We answer every message ourselves.
Thank you
We've got your message. We answer from katun.montenegro@gmail.com, usually within a few days.

Your own page
Your name, your city, your story and your full catalogue - with a link out to your own site. You keep your brand. You don't dissolve into a marketplace.
We make your photos work
Send us what you have, even from a phone. We crop, colour-correct and prepare them for the site - and you get the files back for your own use.
Written and translated
Descriptions, captions and messages with buyers, in English. The barrier that keeps most workshops from ever selling outside their own country.
We are at the start. What we can promise is a share you know in advance and terms that cost you nothing until something sells.
Nothing to pay to be here
No listing fees, no ads you have to buy, no charge for a place on the site. A share of what actually sells, and nothing before that.
Your patterns on record
We document where each ornament comes from and keep it. If a workshop closes, the pattern doesn't disappear with it. That's the part museums and archives talk to us about.
What we take, and for what
We take the sale price as 100%. Nothing else.
| Your shop | 65% | materials and your work |
| KATUN | 35% | page, photo prep, copy, translation, promotion, the buyer |
You set the price the buyer sees. Our share comes out of it, never on top of it. Until 1 December 2026 that share is 25%, so you keep 75%.
Where we are now
We're at the start. We're not going to tell you we'll bring you traffic - we don't have it yet, and you'd hear straight through that.
What's real today: the page, the photo prep, the writing, the translation, and terms that cost you nothing until something sells. You keep your own shop and lose nothing by being here too.
Where this is going
A base inside the EU, so parcels from outside it stop being expensive and unpredictable for everyone we work with. In-person workshops in your region. And a growing record of the ornaments each direction is built on.

About KATUN
KATUN brings back what a country made by hand, and carries it to the people who live far from it.
An ornament is knowledge, not a product. It survives in a museum drawer, in an album nobody has opened in forty years, or in the hands of one woman who still remembers how it goes. When she stops, it goes with her. We go and find it before that happens: we record the museum, the inventory number, the region, and turn it into a chart. That record is the real work. The pieces come after it.
We don't produce anything and we don't own anything. The piece belongs to the woman who knitted it. The recipe belongs to the woman who cooks it. We give the page, the photographs, the words, the translation and the buyer - and her name stays on the piece.
Craft passes from hands to hands, never from paper. That is why our workshops - knitting and cooking - are not an extra service. They are the same work as the archive, done in person.
And it is addressed to people who are far from home. For someone who lives where the ornament came from, it is ordinary. For her daughter in Munich, it is the thing she recognises. That recognition is what we carry.
We started in Montenegro, because that is where we live. Serbia came next, then Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. There is no edge to the map: every country made something of its own, and in every one of them someone still knows how.

How an order works
You add pieces to the cart and send us the order by WhatsApp or email. We reply with availability, the shipping cost and payment details. Your order is confirmed once payment reaches us — not before. Most pieces are made to order, and the making time is shown on each piece.

Pattern charts are digital files. Once the file has been sent to you, it can't be returned.

These are made by hand, so small differences between pieces are normal and are not faults. If something is genuinely wrong — a hole, a seam that fails, the wrong piece — send us a photo and we repair, replace or refund it.

A place is held once payment reaches us. Cancel more than [X] days before the date and we refund in full; after that we can move you to another date but can't refund. If we cancel a session, you get the full amount back.
